Naev 0.6.1 Release

It’s been a while, but we’re proud to announce Naev 0.6.1. This is a minor release that has a slew of fixes, improvements and missions. It fixes some important issues that cropped up in the previous release and thus we highly encourage everyone to update to 0.6.1.

This release would have not been possible without the help of both onpon4, nenau, and Ian D. Scott who have been very active of late. We would like to once again thank all contributors for making this release possible.

I tried installing Naev 0.6.1, and got a “lua51.dll could not be found on this computer” error. So I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and the error persisted. I then tried putting a copy of lua51.dll into C:\Windows\System32\, and now I’m getting an error from naev.exe: “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.”

First of all, is there a way to correct this? Second, is there a way to install using the copy of ndata I have downloaded to my hard drive instead of forcing the installer to download it again?

Update: I tried rebooting the computer, and running as administrator. Both still returned the error.

What version of .NET should I be running? (Is that relevant? How was this compiled?)

The installers were missing a couple of dlls. I’ve re-uploaded them, and it should work now.

I down loaded 6.1 and when i go to run the program nothing literally happens even after a restart there is nothing so what can we do to solve that problem?

  • MattFunke

That seems to have done the trick! Thanks, BTAxis!

@zach: You may be missing a file in your ndata.zip called VERSION. If this file is missing the game will not start. You can try re-downloading ndata.zip, or just add that file to the archive yourself.

The 6.1 windows installer doesn’t seem to do anything. I tried redownloading it, running in compatibility mode, running with admin rights, etc. but the installer just stays resident in memory without actually doing anything.

Scratch that. The 64 bit installer works. No idea why 32 bit does not.

It’s been 2-3 years since I last played, so I thought I’d drop by and check if development was still going on. I’m glad to see it is, and I look forward to seeing what’s changed while I was away!

Is there a place where I can find the full change log?

I played 0.5.3 and finished all available missions, as well as used the console to open content otherwise unavailable in release. I’m totally stoked to see an updated expanded version and am downloading o.6.1 currently. Can’t wait to see the new content

Just found this recently. EV nostalgia pops up now and then and I go looking for successors. Don’t know how I’ve not found this sooner! Looks great! Much joy! I’ve noticed something with the GUI overlays though, the fuel bar doesn’t reflect the fuel level, and there’s no info window for targeting planets. I’m on v .6.1.

Hey, I’m sorry for commenting on this here, but trying to find out how to contact the board administrators have proven a bit complicated by it not being possible to check the group without being registered and activated – and since I’m not receiving any activation email after days of waiting, trying the resend function, and days of waiting, that hasn’t been possible. Has there been some form of problem with it, or is there some limitation that is not apparent prior to activated registration?

Hey, I’m trying to install v 6.1 on Mac OSx 10.10.4. It gives me the “insert data” error, but when I download the 300mb data file and put it in naev/contents/resources, I get the same error. I tried downloading v 6.0 same error. Any ideas?
Thanks! I played the EV series and am very happy there is another game similar to them. Can’t wait to play!

I need to contact you guys. Do you have a Steam or Twitter I can contact you guys on?

I had version 0.5.3, played for a couple of years and basically stopped after I got stuck on Eroik. I also had a major disappointment where I accidentally declined/closed the dialog to what *appeared* to be the beginning of a scripted mission: A Sirian? priest or some rather hailed me in a long, quiet system at the very “south” of the map. I was never able to get it to trigger again.

Since trying to restore my old games from the crashed computer, I have discovered another bug(?): Not one *single* drone kill counts on the Espionage III mission (C-59 distract Collective, 5 drones).

Of course, I am very afraid to update because I don’t know what will become of my ship and my items. Is it better to unequip everything (and sell it for credits) so I don’t lose any value?

  • HELP someone make a video in youtube saying how we can Update NAEV PLEASE i wanna play with the new updated version

2ndLt, here is what I would do (just about finished doing it myself):

Get your save to a tranquil point. Sell all your items and ships, teleport between Arcturus G/Polaris P/Sirius/Dvaered, all the places you need to be able to sell your items back. Some of the ships are cheaper so you may lose a certain amount of money when you upgrade to (0.)6.1.

Back up your save, and then install Naev 0.6.1 (the link is on the main page)–either normal install or Portable, and download the Ndata (or let the installer do it for you). Normall install means your save games are *only* saved in %Appdata%\Naev (which translates roughly to Users\2ndLt2\AppData\Roaming\Naev). Portable install means you can put your save games in your Naev folder and run it from a flash drive, if you like (or better just copy it over to the computer you’re on).

Having backed up your saved games, copy them to the new Naev folder (portable install) or the default location (regular install). Open up Naev.

I can’t wait for the next update! I hope that they make an easier way to befriend traders and FLF. I’ve accidentally shot down a civillian, which strangely counts as a trader, and now I have to redeem myself, but I don’t know how to raise my standing with them permanently, and I don’t mean keep the faction-mending mission. Anyone know how to do that? If you do, I woud like to know as I don’t want to abort the standing-mend mission, but I want to keep a great status with them.

  • nenau

An easy way to increase your reputation is to help their ships when they are being attacked. For traders, it should help you being neutral again, but not further.
For the flf, hang out around Surano, as the npcs in the bar sometimes say. It’s not really easy to become their friend though.
